Sous-vide insulation ball Hendi 551998
Technical data 01 / 02
Sous-vide insulation balls form a floating cover for a water bath, helping limit evaporation and splashing while reducing heat loss. The loose balls also help keep cooking bags beneath the water. Made from polypropylene and usable up to 110 °C, they are designed for the warm-water conditions of sous-vide cooking. Their floating format lets the cover move around the bags rather than forming a fixed surface.
Where it is used
Use the balls in a sous-vide bath when cooking bagged ingredients that need to remain under water throughout the cycle. Because the balls move around the contents, they help keep bags submerged while forming a cover across the water surface. This makes them relevant at a dedicated sous-vide preparation station, where both bag position and exposed bath water matter during cooking.
The balls are made from polypropylene, a lightweight material that makes a loose set straightforward to handle when placing it in the bath or clearing it afterwards. The 500-piece set comes in a bag that keeps the small parts together between uses and makes it convenient to carry the set to the work area. Its 0.5 kg packed weight is manageable for hand carrying between kitchen stations.
Connection and installation
Distribute the balls over the water surface before cooking. Their floating layer limits the surface exposed to air, reducing evaporation and splashing around the bath; limiting this exposure also helps reduce heat loss during the cycle. This gives operators a practical way to cover the bath while keeping access around the water-bath station straightforward.
As they float around the contents, the balls help keep sous-vide bags below the waterline. This supports setup when bags tend to rise, helping maintain immersion during cooking rather than requiring the operator to reposition each bag repeatedly.
How to choose
The 20 mm diameter identifies a small loose-ball format: the spheres can move around bags and settle into gaps across the water surface. This helps distribute the cover around the contents rather than leaving a single rigid barrier above them. The set contains 500 balls, giving the operator individual pieces to spread across the bath surface as a floating layer.
Polypropylene is suitable for use up to 110 °C, so the balls can be used in sous-vide water within that temperature limit. Their lightweight construction makes the set easier to handle when positioning the balls for a cycle. The compact individual spheres can also be gathered back into the supplied bag after use, keeping the set together for its next trip to the station.
