VAT Electric griddles bring searing and grilling onto a heated plate, supporting repeat batches through restaurant, pub, café and catering service. This range includes smooth, ridged and mixed surfaces, letting kitchens match the cooking texture to the menu. Consider the foods being prepared, the desired finish and how the griddle will fit into the working sequence.
Equipment and tasks
A smooth plate suits flat foods that need broad contact, such as eggs and sliced vegetables. The Profi Line model’s fully smooth cooking area measures 330 × 270 mm, helping staff judge how to arrange a batch on the plate. Its hard, 9 mm chrome-plated surface is straightforward to scrape and wipe, making it practical to clear cooking residue during changeovers.
For menus combining grilled and flat-cooked foods, the Kitchen Line half-ridged plate provides both textures across a 518 × 330 mm surface. Staff can grill meat on the ridged portion while preparing eggs or vegetables on the smooth portion. A fully ridged plate is suited to batches where grill marks across the cooking area are wanted, giving the team a more focused surface for that finish.
Parameters in use
The half-ridged Kitchen Line model uses an 8 mm tempered steel plate. Thick steel retains heat after food is added, supporting steadier cooking as successive portions go onto the surface. This matters when a service sequence involves repeated loading rather than isolated items. Its rear edge helps contain splashes, while the removable drip tray collects run-off and can be taken out for cleaning.
The larger mixed-surface model has two independently adjustable heating zones and a zone without a heating element that uses residual heat. Staff can cook at different settings across the plate, then move finished food to the residual-heat area while completing a batch. On smooth models, the excess-fat tray and splash protection help manage run-off around the cooking surface during service.
Choosing a product
Choose by the cooking finish and range of tasks. A smooth surface is suited to foods that need uninterrupted contact and straightforward scraping; a fully ridged surface suits menus where grill marking is a priority. The half-ridged, half-smooth plate accommodates both approaches on one appliance. Where separate heat settings matter, the larger mixed-surface model’s independently controlled zones offer another way to organise work.
Compare plate area and overall dimensions with the intended station and batch workflow. The smooth Profi Line model measures 300 × 452 × 227 mm overall, while the larger mixed-zone model measures 697 × 474 × 241 mm. These dimensions help assess how the appliance will fit the work area and how its plate can support the planned cooking tasks. Stainless steel frames or bodies provide a durable, wipe-clean exterior for regular kitchen use; non-slip feet help keep the appliance stable on its working surface.
